“The City of Lakes” - Delhi
On May 25th, 2022 the Delhi government undertook the task to revamp and beautify over 20 lakes in the Delhi NCR area. A joint meeting with the wetland authority of India, Delhi parks and gardens society, Environment department and land-owning agencies, Delhi development department, and other concerned authorities were chaired by the environmental minister of Delhi to discuss this matter, he claimed that in the bigger picture the goal is to conserve the wetland ecosystem in Delhi and said that the city would soon be transformed into the quote “The City of Lakes”.
Out of the 1,045 lakes in Delhi the wetland authorities have already mapped out 1,018. However, in the first phase, the main focus will be 20 lakes. These lakes will be developed in accordance with international standards and include; Hauz Khas Lake, Daryapur lake, West Vinod Nagar lake, Smriti Van in Vasant Kunj and Kondali, Sanjay Lake, Bhalswa lake, Welcome lake, Lake and woodland area (Rajouri Garden), Tikri Lake, Barwala lake, Park lake, MP green area (Sanjay Van), Jhatikara Lake, Dheerpur Lake, Poth Kalan Lake, Mungeshpur Lake, Mandawali village lake and Najafgarh Lake.
This project will be attempted under the supervision of the Kejriwal Government. They ensured us that all complaints made will be taken into consideration and responded to in their best capacity. Sewage discharge and solid waste disposal will hold a challenge.
